Working with no signal

What the field app shows when there is no signal, how old that information is, and why a tap that fails must be repeated once you are back online.

What you can read with no signal

When the app loads today's agenda with signal, it saves an encrypted copy of your upcoming work on the phone. With no signal, the app shows that copy instead of a blank screen:

  • Your agenda for today and the next six days — the visits booked to you.
  • The visit screen for any of those visits, including the property's access instructions and the visit's notes.
  • For clients on today's and tomorrow's stops: the client's record, their pets, their conversation list, and their most recent conversation. You reach these through Clients, and the client list itself is not saved: it stays on screen only if it loaded earlier while the app was open.

Saved information is shown for up to 24 hours after it was saved, then dropped. To have a copy for the day, open the app with signal before you head out.

What is not saved: Open Pool, the Clients list, invoices, notifications, the map, and anything for another technician. Signing out deletes the saved copy.

How to tell you're looking at saved information

When the agenda couldn't be refreshed, a banner at the top reads Could not refresh. with the reason — No connection. when the phone could not reach Lupa — and "These stops are from the last load that worked, so they may be out of date." Tap Retry once you have signal.

Under saved information, a line says how old it is, for example "Saved 2 hours ago, at 7:15 AM." If Lupa could not check the time recently, the line says when it last did, or that the age is measured by your phone's clock.

If the agenda says "No connection." with no stops under it. Nothing saved covers that day. The app is not saying you have no work — check your signal and tap Retry.

Nothing you tap is recorded without signal

The app does not save taps to send later. On My Way, Start, Complete, Skip, Mark Done, Claim, Confirm, Decline, reordering, booking and sending messages all need a connection at the moment you tap. Without one, the app says the action failed — for example Action failed on a visit — and nothing has changed at Lupa.

A message that fails to send stays on screen marked Not sent, with Retry. Other taps you have to make again yourself.

Repeat a failed tap before midnight

On My Way, Start, Complete, Skip and Mark Done work only on today's visits, by your company's clock. Once the day is over, the visit is no longer today's work: the app and Lupa Tech both refuse the tap, and the office would first have to move the visit to today before it could be completed. If a tap failed for lack of signal, repeat it as soon as you are back online — and before midnight.
